I'm learning about Austrian wines, and this week on Serious Grape I have recommen-
dations for some affordable bottles (and one splurge-worthy one, too) that are just perfect for this time of year.
Austrian wines have an earthiness that makes them a great partner for squash, pumpkin, turkey, sage--so many of the foods and flavors we're all enjoying this time of year.
Autumn doesn't just mean it's time to pop open the red wines--there's still plenty of occasions that call out for a white.
I'll have more posts on Austrian wines next week. I was favorably impressed by what I sipped, and think you will be, too. Have a great weekend, and get out and do some wine exploring. Find yourself an Austrian wine to try. And if you've already found one (or two, or three...) be sure to let us know in the comments below or over on Serious Eats.

This might be the wrong forum, but I am curious person – I'm really looking forward to receive a manuscript from an agent here in Sweden, and start reading. Can it be yours? In that case, congratulations!!

Kerstin--could be! You are a good web detective.
We got excellent wine in Sweden, all very imported, so if I have the pleasure to see you here at Gothenburgs BokkFair in the future, I will introduce you to our collection of homemade snaps, made on carefully chosen berries of slone and rowan, heather and walnuts, and a special grass growing on the west side of the small, granite islands outside Göteborg. Or maybe you drink only wine?

I love that you have suggested pairing white Austrian wines with Fall foods. Once the temperature starts dipping (and it has tremendously here in the northeast) white wines seem to go out of fashion. However, your creative food pairing suggestions combines with the distinct qualities of Austrian wine are great for fall! I will definitely be trying these myself.
Mmmm...gruner veltliner and sushi a must try you haven't already.
it's a good wine ever. you gonna find it for real.
In Vienna, they drink Gruner Veltliner with everything. If you are an American, and you realize that the Austrians invented schnitzel, then you understand why GV is the only wine to drink with fried chicken. Think about that for a moment: Gruner Veltliner is the wine most appropriate for KFC takeout!
that gritsch you have pictured is mighty tasty. i'm sure you'll have fun researching austrian wines, keep us posted on your findings....
I wanted to taste these foreign wines. It should've a grea taste I think.
@Kerstin
I don't why you spoke it up here. Maybe you can speak it in other crowdy forum.
This is only partially true. Recent growth in the wine industry has cannibalized some of the beer industry. While as a nation we could consume more, there is of course a limit. At that point growth of one industry will come at the expense of the other.Perhaps the point is, for most of us, there is a time to enjoy both.
God wanted us to be happy and that’s why he made beer. I won’t be able to live on any other planet because only earth has beer.
